Forgive me, Father, for I have been too busy to preach to my flock. Because of the semi-recent Valentine’s Day, I’ll interpret one of the most popular Bible passages for weddings.
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. (NIV)
4 Love is a pushover and meek. 5 Love does not hurt, it is not selfish, it is not easily angered, it doesn’t really care. Apathetic, at best. 6 Love doesn’t delight in evil, but rejoices when others get what’s “coming to them,” which is kinda evil in itself. 7 It is overprotective and overreacts, but claims to trust the other. Even when things bother it or start going south, love latches on and tries to make it work. Refusing to let go, to point of insanity: Calls late at night. Texts every waking minute and gets pissed if you don’t text back. Stalking.
8 Love never fails. But it shall destroy what you thought was fate, silence the people, and get rid of all intelligence 9 We know, but not actually because it’s still speculation, but we know like from our gut, you know what I mean? Just trust me, cmon, I got it. But we know, 10 it when it happens, which is how any normal sensory function works 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I died a bit inside and lost any fun I had in my personality. 12 For when we look into a mirror, we see our face, and therefore, face-to-face. Now I’m just really high and repeating words to sound prophetic. (BBI)
